Luis Sabino Goncalves

Luis Sabino Gonçalves is an accomplished Portuguese Grand Prix Showjumping Rider, Trainer, and Coach with over four decades of international experience. Since beginning his career in 1979, he has become a core member of the Portuguese National Showjumping Team, representing his country in over 65 international competitions, including two World Championships and six European Championships. A highlight of his career was helping secure a Gold Medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Barcelona.

Luis has won 53 top-level international Grand Prix events across four continents, with major victories in the U.S. since relocating in 2021—including wins in Thermal (CA), Wellington (FL), Lexington (KY), and the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.

As a coach and trainer for over 20 years, Luis has mentored riders from around the globe, including American showjumper Hunter Holloway, who earned 3rd place at the 2023 World Cup Finals in Omaha. He is highly regarded for his expertise in horse development and sales, having placed more than 800 horses—ranging from young prospects to Olympic-level competitors—with riders worldwide.
